agreement.Position Purpose:As an Engineering Associate with Veolia,
you will play a key role in the planning and execution of projects
for Water and Wastewater Utilities, including sources of supply,
treatment plants, pumping stations and transmission mains and
collection systems. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Engineering,
the Engineering Associate will assist with tasks on various
projects from inception to completion, including identification,
design, construction, and acceptance. You will work with a variety
of departments in Veolia, as well as outside consultants and
contractors. You will primarily support projects and operations for
the Highlands systems located in Passaic and Sussex Counties, in
New Jersey. Some support may also be needed with projects in the
Bergen and Hudson Counties (Hackensack/Franklin Lakes system). This
position will potentially work on both water and wastewater systems
and infrastructure.Primary Duties/responsibilities:
- The Engineering Associate will help support various water and
wastewater system capital projects per year.
- Work with the Senior Manager of Engineering and/or Senior
Project Engineer/Manager and the Operations group to understand
their needs in meeting operational, compliance, and health & safety
goals.
- Participate in the development of projects needs and scope of
work.
- Assist and prepare preliminary, engineering, and detailed cost
estimates.
- Assist and develop project budgets and enter into Veolia's
Oracle database applications.
- Prepare funding project requests and asset management
(PowerPlan) updates including small projects handled by
Operations.
- Assist in the forecasting, tracking, and reporting on project
status and expenditures to ensure they are aligned with budget and
established priorities.
- Provide support as need to the Senior Manager of Engineering
and/or Senior Project Engineer/Manager and/or external consultant
teams during the project studies, design, permitting and
construction phases.
- Assist with coordination with Operations during construction to
ensure construction activities are not adversely impacting
Operations.
- Assist and prepare bid documents, including scope of work
development and coordinate procurement with supply chain management
department.
- Assist and/or manage contractors in the project execution
phase. Respond to RFIs, process change requests, and review and
approve invoices in the Veolia AP system.
- Work with Operations and Water Quality teams to ensure needs
and expectations are met, and provide support in project
execution.
- Additional Duties / Responsibilities:
- Assist in field investigations and data gathering for master
planning and capital improvement plans of existing systems.
- Assist the Director of Engineering & Senior Manager of
Engineering in developing analysis and reports to be provided to
regulators, internal or external customers as required.
- Communicate regularly in written form (email, memoranda,
reports, status updates, etc.) and verbally (group and virtual
meetings, internal presentations).
- Other routine tasks and functions that may not be specifically
listed above.Work Environment:The work environment is typically in
an office environment but requires periodic trips to the field to
inspect facilities, where the employee will also be occasionally
exposed to outside weather conditions and an industrial plant
environment which may involve moderate exposure to unusual
elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust smoke,
unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Work environment also
involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require
following industry safety procedures. The duties of this position
will require extensive traveling to dozens of sites in Passaic,
Sussex, and Bergen Counties, in New Jersey on a regular
basis.QualificationsEducation/Experience/Background:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering is
preferred.
- 0-5 years + of engineering experience is
required.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency in Google Workspace applications. Experience in
AutoCAD, ESRI/GIS, PowerPlan, INFOR or other database applications
is preferred.
- Effective Communication Skills are required.Required
