Positions in this function provides care in the ambulatory setting directed toward meeting both the physical and psychosocial needs of the patient. Is a resource person and teacher. Care given reflects initiative and responsibility is indicative of a compatible and supportive team player. Communication on behalf of the patient reflects the mission, ethics and goals of the Facility, as well as the focus statement of the department. Is responsible for assuring patient safety and security through surveillance, adherence to policy and procedure and active participation in environmental and procedural improvement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
    • Coordinates and supervises patient care
    • Provides care to the patient, in compliance with policy rules and regulations, as indicated by individual patient needs
    • Make decisions reflecting knowledge of facts, knowledge of disease, procedure, and care required and good judgement
    • Performance reflects knowledge in all areas of care specific to ambulatory procedures
    • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly
    • Organizes and manages nursing activities reflecting due consideration for patients needs and the needs of the facility and staff. Flexibility is maintained
    • Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; a self-starter; compatible and supportive; a team-player
    • Knowledge of medications and IV fluids and their correct administration based on age of the patient and patient's clinical condition
    • Ability to perform a head-to-toe preoperative assessment on all patients, performs reassessment as needed postoperatively for all patients' specific to their age group
    • Formulates a teaching plan, based on identified patient learning needs, and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Family is included in teaching as appropriate from pre-op to discharge
    • Provides patient with explanation and verbal reassurance consistently
    • Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action in timely manner
    • Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and can identify dysrhythmias
    • Communicates appropriately and clearly to Nurse Manager, supervisor, directors and co-workers and physicians
    • Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
      • Consults with other departments as needed and as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs
      • Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians in the procedure rooms, as needed
      • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations
      • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity, practices good guest relations
      • Maintains a good working relationship and effective communication both within the department and other departments for the benefit of the patient
      • Meets current documentation standards and policies and completes within the staff
      • Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family
      • Carries out medical and surgical asepsis during treatments
      • Maintains an environment that provides the patient and family with the feeling of safety and security
      • Demonstrates Commitment to Patient Safety:
        • Complies with all Optum policies related to patient safety and infection control in meeting job requirements
        • Participates in the identification of unsafe conditions or procedures through surveillance and reporting to appropriate superiors
        • Responds appropriately to the concerns of others regarding safety
        • Seeks to involve the patient as an active participant in his or her care and encourages questions by the patient and family
        • Professional Requirements:
          • Adheres to dress code
          • Completes annual educational requirements
          • Maintains regulatory requirements, Facility procedures and standards
          • Reports to work on time as scheduled. Completes work within designated time
          • Wears identification badge while on duty and uses time system correctly
          • Participates in in-service on an ongoing basis. Keeps up to date with new equipment orientation and training
          • Actively participates in department's PI activities
          • Ensures confidentiality of patient's records
          • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the Facility

            Required Qualifications:
            • Current State of New York Registered Nurse Licensure
            • Current ACLS, BLS and PALS certification
            • 2+ years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
            • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance.                   New York Residents Only: The hourly range for New York residents is $27.07 to $53.08.
