Job Description
NBC News Group Digital is seeking an experienced OTT Engineer who possesses a passion for building great user experiences for TV app and voice platforms. They will work with our team of talented engineers to design and build the next generation of flagship applications for our brands, including CNBC, NBC News and MSNBC. Responsibilities
Every day as an OTT Engineer is different. On a given day, you might:

  • Architect, develop and debug TV and Voice applications across a variety of platforms, including Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Android TV and Alexa.
  • Facilitate cross-platform engineering discussions that lead to consistency, efficiency and unity within a multi-stack team.
  • Engage in code reviews that lead to high-quality software and team decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teammates to define, design, scope, and ship user-impacting features.
  • Mentor engineering teammates, providing technical guidance, spurring individual growth and ultimately improving the team's ability to hit goals.
  • Collaborate with relevant technical groups, such as backend and library development teams, educating others about the work of the team and assuring strong integration between systems and high trust between groups.
  • Influence designers, promoting best practices in native UX principles and optimizing for both developer and design considerations.
  • Optimize team efficiency and output quality with strategies including unit-test coverage and working with QA on test automations.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce tech debt.
  • Write and refine useful documentation that optimizes developer experience and onboarding for new teammates.
  • Help define product roadmaps and vision for long-term engineering goals.
  • Define and champion engineering principles that lead to great developer experience, high application performance and all-around user satisfaction.
    Qualifications
    Qualifications/Requirements
    • Minimum 7+ years of professional software development experience
    • Solid understanding of core programming principles and design patterns
    • 4+ years of experience building native client applications
    • Strong ability in native app dev tooling (e.g. XCode, Android Studio), core languages (e.g., Brightscript, Kotlin or Swift) and platform features
    • Solid background writing tests and improving test quality and coverage
    • Comfortable working with Git, Jenkins and Jira
    • Ability to leverage build tools to enable cross-team module sharing and integration with third-party modules
    • Fluency and comfort utilizing and improving CI/CD pipelines for native apps
      Bonus Points
      • Engineering depth in video technologies, e.g., experience with optimizing streaming performance, or integrating video ads and analytics dependencies
      • Deep understanding of code re-use and SDK design, development and integration
      • Experience with contemporary backend development platforms, such as cloud services, container technologies and serverless backends.
      • Experience with web technologies, hybrid apps or native integration of web applications
      • Experience developing for voice platforms
